Fierce Salvage: Ely Percy, Carrie Marshall & Mae Diansangu
Celebrating a new
anthology of Scottish LGBTQ+ writing from independent publisher, 404 Ink, we
welcome three contributors to read their pieces and chat about their wider
work.
Renfrewshire-born Ely Percy made quite the impression with Duck Feet in
2021, which was named Scottish Book of the Year for its authentic portrayal
of teen lives in early 2000’s Renfrew and Paisley, and this year was added to
the SQA’s list of Scottish texts for high school students. Author,
journalist, and musician Carrie Marshall’s debut memoir, Carrie Kills a Man,
about coming out and trans parenthood, was shortlisted at the British Book
Awards, whilst her latest book, Small Town Joy, is a celebration of queer
influences and artists in Scots music. Aberdeen-based Mae Diansangu’s debut
poetry collection, Blood Songs, shifts between English and North-East Scots,
creating a passionate and distinctly Scottish ode to queerness and blackness,
and evoking how these aspects of experience are felt through the body.
